Scripture Review: “The Matthew Effect”

Scripture Review: "The Matthew Effect"

Scripture Review: “The Matthew Effect” – “For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance.  But from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.”  Matthew 25:29

The quote talks about our reality where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Our welfare system has companies that profit from that system, so those private companies lobby to keep their profits increasing.  In the end, people will not move up and the rich get richer and those who are dependent stay dependent and poor. The prison system has a profit motive built in to it, so poor people get locked up and have more taken from them, their freedom.  Our wars make certain people extremely wealthy and those soldiers have their lives taken from them to protect that profit. The rich own the weapons and rebuilding contracts and soldiers get killed or emotionally disturbed from war.

In Malcom Gladwell’s Outliers he uses the scripture to explain why “outliers” or extremely successful people end up so successful. Some people call it “the lucky sperm club.” The scripture shows that people with money and prestige have much more opportunities than someone who comes from a poor family. The above examples of our government welfare, jail and warfare systems are examples of how the government plagues our people for privatized corporate profit.
